Springtime awakens the world with fresh possibilities, inviting us to step outside and reconnect with nature. As flowers bloom and the air warms, spring reminds the Crimsonbridge Foundation’s team of the beauty and resilience of our environment. It’s the perfect time to trade indoor routines for outdoor action - whether it’s planting trees, removing invasive vines, or restoring natural habitats. Volunteering with local organizations is a fantastic way to learn, participate, and contribute to conservation efforts right in your own community.

Since 2023, Crimsonbridge Foundation has partnered with Environmental Sustainability organizations, all of which offer volunteer opportunities.
From river cleanups and tree plantings, to weekend and weekday opportunities, there is a lot to choose from! We recommend visiting each organization’s website for the most up-to-date information and to get involved.
Forest & Park Clean-Up
Friends of Anacostia Park: Join the Friends Corps every third Saturday from 10 am – Noon (April to October) with park restoration activities at the Anacostia Park Skate Pavilion.
Rock Creek Conservancy: Utilizes the power of people to steward and protect 1,800 acres of the Rock Creek Park watershed. Rock Creek Conservancy offers many ways to volunteer including invasive plant removal, litter cleanups, and ranger talks.
Ward 8 Woods Conservancy: Partners with DC residents and visitors to remove invasive vines from thousands of trees, and remove hundreds of thousands of pounds in trash. Regular volunteer opportunities happen every first Saturday of the month (10:30 am – 1 pm) at Suitland Parkway and every second Saturday of the month (10:30 am – 1 pm) at Shepherd Parkway. Enjoy the outdoors, wear work boots, full-length shirts and pants, and bring your water bottle.
Native Plant Growing
Chesapeake Natives: Located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Chesapeake Natives opened for the 2025 growing season at the end of March. People can learn about Local Ecotype Native Species (LENS) plants that are native to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Greenhouse volunteer shifts are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 am – 3 pm.
Tree Planting
Casey Trees: With a mission of restoring, enhancing, and protecting the region’s tree canopy, Casey Trees hosts weekly tree plantings all around Washington DC and in surrounding Maryland communities.

River Clean-Up
EcoAction Arlington: Want to celebrate Earth Day by volunteering? EcoAction Arlington is hosting a stream clean-up at Bon Air Park (Virginia) on Tuesday, April 22 from 5 – 7 pm.
Potomac Conservancy: Looking for a Saturday volunteering opportunity? Potomac Conservancy is hosting a Potomac River clean up on Saturday May 10 from 9 – 11 am, meeting at Sligo Creek Trail in Chillum, Maryland.
Water Quality Monitoring
Nature Forward: In addition to the Community Science Water Quality Monitoring program, Nature Forward has a year-round volunteer program with opportunities in environmental education, conservation, restoration, and more. Master Naturalists support education programs, stewardship of habitats, and conservation outreach.
Every action and positive effort contributes to protecting the air we breathe and the water we drink, and restoring the natural environment from the impacts of climate change.
Since 2023, Crimsonbridge has awarded environmental sustainability grants to local nonprofit organizations serving the Greater Washington Region. We work with community partners to increase sustainability through: tangible improvements to the environment, inclusive and informed community engagement, and green workforce initiatives. Join us as we act to conserve and protect our region's natural resources and environment for generations.
